What a year. It was around this time in 2012 that I was in the middle of a binge reading fest that consisted of nothing but new adult books. I devoured them. Loved pretty much every single one of them. Abbi Glines, Nyrae Dawn, Colleen Hoover, Jessica Sorensen…those were the first four NA authors I read and was wowed by. There are more. So many more that I could mention but then this post would turn into nothing but a list. Instead, I’ll just reference you to an excellent Goodreads NA list that you can check and compare to see if you’ve missed any great books.
Not only did I binge read, I binge wrote a book that turned into One Week Girlfriend. I may have said this before, but peeps this book changed my life. It changed my entire career and I am so damn thankful that Drew + Fable came into my head and started whispering their story to me. I went from reading new adult books to writing them and I’m still loving every single minute of it.
I can’t even begin to tell you what books are my favorite NA reads this year because there are, again, too many to mention. But can I just say what a fabulous bunch of people my fellow authors are? And the readers…we couldn’t do this writing thing without the readers and I adore every single one of them. I’ve met so many people this year, both writers and readers and what an awesome, supportive group they all are.
As I look to the future, I’m feeling reflective. What will happen to the new adult market? Will it grow and expand? Shrink up? Do readers still want to read new adult or have they already moved on? Have all the stories been told? I don’t think so. There are always stories to be told and there is plenty of subject matter when it comes to this time period in our lives. Late teens/early twenties is nothing but high drama, angst, major decisions and scary yet exhilarating moments. How can you not find ideas?
I’m excited to say that the third book in the series, THREE BROKEN PROMISES is coming out December 31st (what a way to end the year, right?). This book is the sexiest of the bunch and probably the most angst-ridden. Colin and Jen bring with them a lot of baggage. Plus, they keep a lot of secrets from each other. They’re a little older than Drew + Fable and they have a shared past (which is why I think their story is so sexy). I hope everyone gives Jen and Colin a chance and reads their story.
Then on January 14th, DREW + FABLE FOREVER, a special digital novella continuing Drew + Fable’s story, will be available. This novella (it’s only 99 cents!) is basically a labor of love for the readers who adored this couple. It was so much fun to go back into Drew + Fable land. So much happens in such a short amount of time but I can’t say a word. I want it to be a surprise! Just be reassured these two definitely get their happily ever after and then some.
So tell me your opinion on new adult and your reading habits. Still reading them? Wishing for a change? Bored out of your skull? Totally loving them? Let me know and I’ll choose one lucky commenter to win a print signed copy of THREE BROKEN PROMISES! Good luck and happy holidays!
