Fifty Shades of Grey
If you couldn't tell by our Five Weeks of Fifty Shades feature, the team here at Romance at Random is pretty excited for the 50 Shades movie to premiere this weekend. That's why we're dedicating this week's hunk day to one hunk, the very sexy Jamie Dornan aka Christian Grey.
We know you're curious about the movie. Who isn't? We're happy to share: author Sofia Tate snagged a spot a Fifty Shades screening, and shares her thoughts on the film event we've all been waiting for! (If you haven't read the books, spoiler alert...)
When I wrote my first steamy romance novel over 20 years ago, it was sold in the secret back section of book stores, sex novelty shops, or by mail order—and shipped in a plain brown wrapper. Oh my, how things have changed!
With over 100 million books sold worldwide, we all know how Fifty Shades of Grey affected readers. But how did this blockbuster series affect romance writers, many of whom were writing erotic content long before Christian Grey became part of the lexicon. Today, six authors share how Fifty Shades of Grey changed the landscape of erotic writing for them.
Millions of women around the world have fallen for Christian Grey since the publication of E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey and now they (we) eagerly anticipate seeing him come to life next month in the film adaptation of the book. Admittedly, some of us get tingly all over just thinking of it. But in those less intoxicating moments, when the heady arousal induced by thoughts of this iconic book boyfriend subside, do you ever wonder how we fell so hard for Mr. Christian Grey? I spoke to Barna William Donovan, Ph.D., a communications professor at Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, N.J., and an author and expert on fan behavior, about why Mr. Grey had us from, “I exercise control in all things, Miss Steele.”
One month from today, the movie we have all been waiting for hits theaters! In anticipation, we will countdown with Five weeks of Fifty, celebrating the phenomenon that is FIFTY SHADES OF GREY with weekly posts about how our love affair with the book began, what we’re most excited about with the movie, thoughts from writers on how it affected their careers, and more.
Is it me, or is every trailer they release getting hotter? I guess this one is technically SFW, but it kinda doesn’t feel that way…enjoy!

What do you think?
It’s only been a month since filming wrapped on Fifty Shades of Grey, but star Dakota Johnson already has her eye on her next role. Deadline Hollywood reports that the actress is in talks to play the love interest of Johnny Depp in the film Black Mass, the story of Irish mobster Whitey Bulger and FBI agent John Connolly. But Fifty Shades fans, don’t worry: Deadline also reports that she is slated to return for three – possibly four – future Fifty Shades movies. Who are you more excited to see her with onscreen, Jamie Dornan or Johnny Depp?
New Worlds. Channel 4 just released their first trailer for the new show, so you can get a glimpse of rebel Jamie. The bad news (for me and anyone living in the U.S.) is that it’s only airing in the U.K. Fingers crossed PBS will air this?! If not, I guess we’ll have to wait til it comes out on Netflix.
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson were even considered for the main roles of Christian and Anastasia, there were reports that Angelina Jolie was in talks to direct the film adaptation of E.L. James’ bestselling novel.
