My Top Five Summer TV Hotties

I’m old enough at forty-five years old to remember when my little sister was my TV remote control (“Hey. I bet you can’t go change the channel really fast.” Sucker) and we had three network channels and PBS.  I also remember when the summer was the absolute lull in TV viewing, with only re-runs and old movies playing every night since the big shows were on hiatus. But now – thanks to the genius humans who created cable TV, DVR’s and DVD’s – I don’t have to drool over the TV Guide and wish for fall to arrive. I have sexy new heroes to bring those summer nights to the boiling point while I wait for my beloved Winchester brothers (Supernatural) to return to me. This is my short-list of the shows featuring my top … Continued

Five Fascinating Facts about Regency

Ella Quinn is here today to talk about the endlessly fascinating Regency era. It’s the setting for her Marriage Game series, the latest of which publishes this week, Enticing Miss Eugenie Villaret. In anticipation of this Regency romp, she shares five fascinating facts about that scandal-prone time period: It was a place out of time that made the 1960’s look tame, unless you were an unwed female. Women’s stays (corsets) were not tight. Their sole mission was to smooth the lines of the gowns. Women weighed a lot more. It was considered vulgar for ones collar bone to show. More than 50% of births took place in less than nine months of marriage among the gentry and aristocracy. This can be explained by the growing interest in love matches and the fact that once betrothed … Continued

Cute and Quirky Proposal Videos

Proposal videos have recently become so ubiquitous that getting one emailed from a friend happens more often than not when I open my inbox. Commercial Airline Proposal An in-flight proposal is both sweet and exciting. And she’s bagged a romantic pilot…you go girl! 2. Bright Lights, Big City Wow, this one took some planning. But the result is spectacular and showy! People all over the city could see this proposal. 3. The Best Commute. Ever. My commute on the train is generally much less exciting than this one is and I think this is one of the sweetest … Continued

Best Of: Say Yes to the Dress + Giveaway

Say Yes to the Dress is the perfect wedding guilty pleasure because it lets you take part in the fun lead-up to a wedding without actually having to be part of the annoying logistics and family dynamics surrounding the dress choosing. I also love how each episode shows off real couples and their real love stories. And it doesn’t hurt that there are also plenty of opportunities to watch badly behaved brides and their drama Here are some of my favorite clips from the show. Enjoy them now (for a quick break from your work!) and then curl up with a glass of wine and watch an episode later this week. It’s the easiest way to “participate” in the spring/summer wedding season! PS: Check out our giveaway at the bottom of the post 1. “100 … Continued

7 Things To Say To The Man In Your Life

Whether your marriage still feels like the newlywed stage, or you’re feeling like college roommates these days, there’s always room for improvement in relationships. To help you ramp up your relationship, we talked to sex and relationship expert Reid Mihalko,, for his tips on what to say to your guy to strengthen your connection and ramp up the romance in your relationship. One of Mihalko’s relationship courses, the Romance Home Run course helps his clients identify their partner’s “love language” (from Dr. Gary Chapman’s The Five Love Languages) and how to show love in a way that resonates with their partner so they feel cared for.   1. Tell him he’s doing a good job in the relationship. Men are usually what Mihalko calls “dogs” or “cats” and, just like women, what feels romantic … Continued

6 Celebrity 2nd Marriages That Have Gone the Distance

Some of these marriages are so sweet and enduring we forgot that they were a 2nd attempt at wedded bliss.  Here’s to those who really made it work the second time around. 1.       Ronald & Nancy Reagan Once upon a time, divorce could stop a political career in its tracks. Fortuitously, actor Ronald Reagan hadn’t entered politics yet when his marriage to actress Jane Wyman ended in 1948—after eight years together. By the time he ran for president in 1980, he had been married to second wife, Nancy Davis, for 28 years and voters forgave him (or never knew about his first marriage to begin with). Ronnie and Nancy were openly affectionate throughout their marriage. He wrote love letters to her often. He once wrote, “Whatever I treasure and enjoy … all would be without meaning … Continued

Five Favorite Muppets Couples

The new Muppets movie comes out this weekend and I’m dying to see it. The strange combination of Ty Burrell (aka Phil Dunphy), Tina Fey and Miss Piggy is so intriguing to me. As I was thinking about Muppets: Most Wanted, I started thinking about all of the famous Muppets couples. Here are my favorites: Floyd Pepper and Janice. Bass player and lead electric guitar, respectively, of Electric Mayhem, they are the cool hippies I wish I could be. Photo courtesy of Bert and Ernie. I’m branching out into Sesame Street territory here, but they are such a good pair. And I loved the New Yorker cover that shows them cuddling watching the ruling for gay marriage on TV. Get Lucky Week: Lucky Songs

T.G.I.F. Today marks the kick-off of St. Patty’s Day weekend and I couldn’t be more excited! To get in the spirit, I put together this list of “Lucky” songs. Do you have any favorite songs about luck? Or any “getting lucky” songs ? 1. Get Lucky by Daft Punk This song is great for just about every weekend, but it’s absolutely perfect for this weekend. 2. Lucky by Britney Spears An early 2000s classic. Gotta love Britney at the height of her success. And that lip gloss. Wow. 3. Lucky Star by Madonna Madonna in all of her punk-glam glory. It’s a great song and an even better video. 4. Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat This is such a sweet love song and Jason and Colbie’s voices blend together in such a lovely … Continued

5 Reasons Ken is the Worst Boyfriend

March 13 is National Ken Doll Day, so let’s take a magnifying glass to the world’s most famous plaything boyfriend. We’ve discovered some flaws in the model—here are five reasons why Ken is not the perfect boyfriend he’s packaged to be:   1. His Earring Magic Ken phase (or any phase that involves him going through your sacred accessory drawer—I’m looking at you, Jewel Secrets Ken). “Dammit, Ken, stop going through my closet—I already told you that shade of purple does nothing for your complexion!”   2. Remember that time he needed “space?” In 2004, just days before Valentine’s Day, Ken and Barbie split up.  The reason? They “felt it was time to spend some time apart.” Please—any good celebrity publicist knows that’s code for someone sneaking around. And Ken always has that cat-who-ate-the-canary grin … Continued

Get Lucky Week: Love Rituals

Everyone has their own weird love superstitions: a lucky pair of underwear, an amount of time they wait before calling someone back, a ritual they do in the mirror before they go out, but have any of you ever tried (or would try) these wacky (and sometimes gross) traditions? 1. Sleep with a piece of wedding cake (or a mirror–how these two vastly different objects will bring about the same result is unclear to me) and you will dream of the one you will marry. I’m imagining this would result less in dreams of Prince Charming and more in sugary icing in your hair and all over your sheets, but you never know. 2. Swallow whole the heart of a chicken and you will have your choice of man or woman to marry. Does this mean I … Continued

5 Reasons Ken is the Perfect Boyfriend

Wednesday is National Ken Doll Day, so I thought, what better day to celebrate the world’s perfect boyfriend, Ken Carson (that’s Ken’s full name, in case you didn’t already know)? Here are the top five reasons why Ken is the perfect boyfriend:   1. He’s versatile. Ken is never stuck in a rut. He’s been a cowboy, a Harley Davidson rider, a military man, a doctor…the list goes on and on. It seems he’s got the best of all the worlds. With Ken as your boyfriend you can be sure things will never be boring.     2.He knows how to have fun. Ken is constantly trying new activites. He’s sporty, he’s musical, he’s artistic. What this means for you is that he will always have a good date idea up his sleeve. And judging by … Continued

Five Things We Love About Jamie Dornan

1. He’s Irish. Which means he has a cute accent, comes from the land of Guinness, and has luck on his side!       2. This Calvin Klein ad is–in our opinion–one of the steamiest ads they’ve done and it features Jamie.  We definitely wouldn’t mind coming across this in a magazine. Photo courtesy of E! Online 3. He’s a new father to baby girl with his beautiful wife Amelia Warner. We both love and hate this. Hate it because it means he’s taken, but love it because Amelia Warner is gorgeous and we’re happy he’s happy, right? 4. He’s endorsed by Kiera Knightley (who he dated for two years). She says, of his role in 50 Shades, “He’s a very good looking boy, I’m sure the girls will love him.” A post break-up endorsement? … Continued

Five Things We Love About Dakota Johnson

1. She said this in an interview with Elle: “I don’t have any problem doing anything. The secret is I have no shame.” Umm..we totally love that attitude! If she can have no shame while acting out some, ahem, interesting scenes with Jamie Dornan, then we can be less ashamed of being the first one to dance at the birthday party or sing in the shower. 2. Her mom is Melanie Griffith. Her dad is Don Johnson. And we love Melanie Griffity in Working Girl. Don Johnson’s not too bad himself in Miami Vice. 3. She understands that not all love stories are the same:  “I just really understand it,” said Johnson. “I think it’s an incredible love story and that’s why it’s affected so many people. Erica (EL James) did a really good job of explaining how that … Continued
