In Love With Superheroes

I admit it. I am a huge geek. One could argue that I am totally, head-over-heels, madly-in- love with superheroes. What woman could resist Captain America, as played by Chris Evans, in the latest movie installment, The Winter Soldier? He’s an indestructible, super-soldier with the manners of a true gentleman. I can feel a swoon coming on just thinking about him. Or better yet, Arrow, as played by Stephen Amell on the CW. A man who survived a horrible five years on a desolate island returns home to save his city. He’s emotionally scarred, a bit of a bad boy in his green leather, and makes you desire, above all else, to be the one woman who will heal him. Stories abound these days that include the apocalypse; either the hero and heroine avert it, survive it, or in some cases, cause it. That theme has been one which has fascinated us since the dawning of civilization, we have wondered how our story would end. I admit that I have always been quite captivated with end of the world scenarios. There are a ton of books and movies which examine how society and people would function; The Hunger Games, The Walking Dead, and Revolution are prime examples. At its heart, each of these stories removes all human artifice and brings what is truly important to the forefront. I like the issues that are examined.
