Paranormals: My Favorite Escape

When it’s cold outside and the days are short, it’s the time of year I like to escape into other worlds and mystical beings. For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by anything paranormal. I first discovered paranormal romances as a teenager as a way to escape. So today, I’m sharing some of my all-time favorites.

THE RAVEN by Sylvain Reynard

When I got to the last page of THE RAVEN before Christmas, I wondered just how I was going to be able to pull together a review to properly explain just how wonderful this book was. Even now, I’m not sure I could put words into print to do it any justice. It was, in a word, magnificent.

BOUND BY FLAMES (Night Prince #3) by Jeaniene Frost

While reading a Jeaniene Frost novel, I have to prepare the space around me to ensure I have the optimal experience. Note: Do I have my tissues? Check. Is there plenty of chocolate for my sudden hormonal cravings generated by intense action scenes that leave my heart beating outside my chest? Check.

BURNED by Karen Marie Moning

To put it simply, Burned is an adventure from the beginning to the end. Moning delivers an on-the-edge-of-your-seat story with her signature finesse. Enthralling, powerful, and downright sexy, Burned is everything you’ve been aching for and more.

Book Binge: FEVER by Karen Moning, A Series Primer

To help you get ready for BURNED, I’ve put together a Fever Series primer for you. Since each book is extremely layered and detailed I couldn't get every aspect into this primer but hopefully this will help either refresh your memory or encourage you to start the series. Enjoy!

THE PRINCE (The Florentine #.05) by Sylvain Reynard

THE PRINCE, a novella by Sylvain Reynard, is a prequel to THE RAVEN, the first full-length novel in his new Florentine series. I find the term “novella” to be too dull and lifeless to describe THE PRINCE. I believe the word “prelude” would be much more appropriate because it effectively expresses the beauty and lyrical prose of this short work.

The Dallas SWAT team is hiding one helluva secret . . . they're a pack of wolf shifters. The team of elite sharpshooters is ultra-secretive—and also the darlings of Dallas. This doesn't sit well with investigative journalist Mackenzie Stone. They must be hiding something . . . and she's determined to find out what. Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She's smart, sexy, and makes him feel alive for the first time in years. But she's getting dangerously close to the truth—and perilously close to his heart.

Talking with Ella Frank

Ella Frank is the author of nine self published books that run the full gamut of romance genres. I’ve read everything Ella’s written and I’ve never been disappointed. In fact, I’m usually rendered speechless. Her latest release TEMPERANCE (The Arcanian Chronicles #1) is a step into the world of fantasy and paranormal. The world building in this tale is extraordinary and you’ll feel instantly engulfed in the twists of the plot as they surround you. The ever-busy Ella was able to juggle her schedule of book releases and a very recent family move to take some time and sit down for a little interview with us.

Books to Buy January 12

It’s a great week for contemporaries with new offerings from Chelsey Krause and Diana Gardin. Politics heat up on Emma Barry’s latest, and Season Vining will have your heart pounding with suspense and lust in her new novel. For short and steamy, check out Rachel Kramer Bussel’s latest anthology.

WOLVES’ BANE by Angela Addams

Morgan Stills is a woman without a future. At least, that’s what the carnival psychic tells her. Love is foretold as well, but too bad. She’s already been marked for death. She no sooner flees the psychic’s tent when she’s confronted by the biggest wolf she’s ever seen. A wolf that talks to her—right before she’s enveloped in a black cloak and dragged away.

Fifteen books ago, Kerrelyn Sparks had me at hello with this series. Any author that kicks off a series with an ancient vampire breaking off a fang biting into a blow up sex doll, only to fall in love with a dentist who faints at the sight of blood, is an author I need to read and possibly become best friends with! CROUCHING TIGER, FORBIDDEN VAMPIRE ties up this wonderful series with the correct amount of emotion and humor we’ve grown to love and expect from Kerrelyn Sparks.

"I first stumbled on Rhyannon Byrd a few years back when I picked up Last Wolf Standing and I have been hooked on this series ever since."

What Makes an Irresistible Leading Man

They say you form your personality, likes and dislikes, and the rules you live by early in life. I think that’s true—even for what appeals when it comes to heroes.

True Romance “At Random”

"Thinking about writing for Romance at Random, I couldn’t help but think how random romance really is. I mean, did you end up with the person you thought you would? I most certainly didn’t."

REVENANT by Larissa Ione

Oh, how I love Larissa Ione. Her books are a thrill ride and her unlikely heroes always leave a lasting impression. Revenant is no different. As the final book in the Lords of Deliverance/Demonica series, I think the author definitely saved the best for last, because Revenant is mad and he wants everyone to know it.

In Case You Missed: Best of October

Hey, its Sara @HarlequinJunkie, stopping by to share with you some of our favorite books from this past month. If you missed these, it’s not too late to get them onto your TBR. And if you read them, we hope you enjoyed them as much as we did!

Outback Ghost (Bunyip Bay #3) by Rachael Johns Outback Ghost was an incredible finish to the Bunyip Bay trilogy. Author Rachael Johns has given us one of the most perfectly romantic tales I have read in a long, long time. It’s difficult to put into words all the reasons why I fell in love with this story, but I’ll give it a whirl. It mostly centers around the main characters Stella, Adam, and Heidi, of course. The way Ms. Johns was able to communicate the absolute devotion… Continue

Lucky 13: Paranormals for Halloween

It’s that time of year: crunchy leaves, pumpkin spice everything, bonfires and spooky stories. For an autumn lover like myself, this is the most wonderful time of the year. Growing up, I used to watch all sorts of horror movies, movies that made me run across my bedroom floor and jump onto my bed after turning off the light because my overactive imagination gave me too many ideas of what could be hiding under my bed, just waiting for the right time to reach out and grab my ankle! I still love a good scary movie, I even love a campy, bad scary movie but now I’ve added paranormal books to my repertoire and I’d love to share some sexy, spooky reading ideas with you — just in time for Halloween. Some of these are… Continue

Hardcore Alpha vs. Sensual Seducer

My romance-loving friends and I debate all the time over which kind of leading man is more alluring. While I tend to veer toward the alpha just about every time, I do love the teasing sensual seducer as well. Let’s do a little compare/contrast, shall we? First, our seducer has patience. Our alpha clearly doesn’t even know the definition of the word. The alpha has one goal—her—and he wants her now. No bed required—a good, sturdy wall will do (or desk, pool table, whatever). On the other hand, the seducer is a master of the art of seduction, savoring the slow, tantalizing love-play. For he knows that her surrender will make the reward even more sweet. Another trait our seducer has is charm. Within the seducer’s arsenal of charm is his bone-melting,… Continue

VAMPIRES OF MANHATTAN by Melissa de la Cruz

I am a new Melissa de la Cruz convert. As you already know, I recap the weekly Lifetime series, Witches of East End which is based on her books about the Beauchamp family; now I have a new de la Cruz series to follow. Vampires of Manhattan is a spin off of de la Cruz’s YA series, Blue Bloods. Since I am not a big reader of all things Young Adult, I will admit to not being completely familiar with that series. Have no fear; de la Cruz does an excellent job getting me up to speed. I was able to glean enough back-story about each main player in this series to make me,  a newbie, feel right at home. I am a huge paranormal fan. Not all paranormal is created equal. The world-building necessary… Continue

It’s the age-old tale of angels versus demons, but forget the usual stuff about their rift because Jeaniene Frost is switching things up in The Beautiful Ashes. Curious? Since I’ve been fortunate enough to snag an ARC, I’m giving you a quick lowdown on Ivy and Adrian’s story. The rest you just have to read for yourself. Let’s start with the romance: what you’ll find in The Beautiful Ashes is the forbidden sort as Ivy and Adrian’s lineage has been at odds with each other for centuries. Now I wouldn’t necessarily call it insta-love because they said the L-word towards the end but if we are to follow the timeline, Ivy and Adrian did fall for each other sooner rather than later. That said, I didn’t find this story to be driven by the… Continue

A HIGHLANDER’S OBSESSION (Highlander’s Beloved #1) By Vonnie Davis

I’ve never hidden the fact that in the realm of paranormal romances, I’m a shifter girl, not a fang banger. In the romance realm, I am also a lover of all things Highlander and let me just interject, what a wonderful time it is to be a lover of the Highlanders! A HIGHLANDER’S OBSESSION is the best of both worlds. Set in modern times, there is a definite throwback feel when exploring the mores of the castle/bed and breakfast inhabitants. In fact, Creighton Matheson is the laird of the land. He’s the first born son in an area that places huge value on first born sons but there is also a curse settled on these fellas, and it never ends well. As I mentioned, this is a shifter book but I am not going to… Continue

DARK SKYE (Immortals After Dark # 14) By Kresley Cole

Dark Skye is the story of ill-fated childhood best friends, Thronos and Lanthe. Thronos is royalty in his Vrekener clan. A real life prince of a winged warrior. Vrekeners reside in the secluded floating city of Skye Hall. It is far above the clouds, heaven of sorts and the residents live a life of austere moderation to say the least. No impure thoughts, no pre-marital sex, no drinking, no dancing, no flashy clothes, no thinking outside the box. Self control to the most excruciating degree. Lanthe is Queen of Persuasion, royalty of the Sorceri. Sorceri worship gold, live in the moment, and are carousing, wanton sexual beings. Sorceri are the night to Vrekener day but Lanthe is fated to be Thronos’ light. Oh yeah, family feuds, beheadings, 500 year pursuits, and deeply seated opposing positions… Continue

Immortals After Dark: A Series Primer

I will admit it, freely and openly: I love a good paranormal romance. But when it comes to paranormal, suspension of disbelief is vital. Many authors have tried, but not all have succeeded in coaxing me into the headspace necessary to fall into the story they create. In paranormal, another key is world-building; Kresley Cole accomplishes this flawlessly. Her Immortals After Dark series is one of the most engaging, tightly focused, thoroughly consistent paranormal series out there. This is not a small task. Keeping your world building consistent across a huge laundry list of books is exceptionally difficult; I can’t even imagine the flow chart Ms. Cole has for this series. Cole manages to introduce new characters, new situations and new drama without neglecting the core of the series. With the fourteenth book in the… Continue
A curse Awak

Discover Cecy Robson’s sensational Weird Girls series—or return to where the magic first began—with this eBook original prequel novella about four sisters coming to grips with their unique supernatural powers. Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do. Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command. Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face… Continue
